The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has revealed that it has reduced its Service-level agreement (SLA) for roadworthiness certificates from a projected $155.4million over the past three years to GH¢2 million for the period 2026-2028.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey speaking at the Public Accountability series on Monday, October, 12, 2026, the reduction in the projected amount is an effort to reduce operational costs and improve the management of funds.

He explained that the previous agreement which covered 2023-2025 was projected to cost $51.8 million amounting to a total amount of $155.4 million.

He added that the reviewed arrangement led to a renegotiation which resulted in a new value of GH¢2 million for the period of 2026-2028.

“For the three years, we reduced the SLA projected amount of 155.4 million to GH¢2 million for the three years 2026, 2027, 2028”, he said.

Mr. Julius added that the renegotiation would translate into savings of approximately $50 million every year.

The announcement by the DVLA CEO, Mr. Julius Nartey has raised questions as the previous agreement was made in US dollars while the current figure is now in cedis.

Clarification on the said amount is expected to be delivered by the DVLA boss in the coming days.
