The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Edmond Kombat says the TOR through its recovery and restoration programme has created over 8,000 direct and indirect jobs for the youth.
Mr. Kombat speaking at the Government Accountability series on Monday, October, 26, 2026 says the refinery has offered employment opportunities to engineers, local contractors, temporary workers, and other downstream workers.
According to him the sector has provided 415 young people with permanent work while 301 youth are currently on temporary work in the sector to support the operation.
Mr. Kombat added that about sixty-seven (67) young people have been recruited for maintenance of the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) alongside 654 people currently working at the local contractors.
He added that the restoration program has supported livelihoods by offering indirect jobs to 6,500 people as tank drivers and other workers in the downstream petroleum sector.
“The restoration program has created a number of jobs, we sometimes wonder where these would have been if the TOR were not back”, he said.
He further stated the refinery program has created direct and indirect jobs for young people across the petroleum value chain.
