On Saturday, September, 26, 2026 public transport fares are expected to increase by 8% after several weeks of agreement between the government and the transport operators.

The increment comes after the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Coordinating Council (GRCC) called upon the Ministry of Transport over the adjustment of transport fares.

In a meeting on September, 6 between the Union and the Ministry, the Union presented the proposal while the Ministry gave their outlined on transport fares. This included the GHs 2 reduction per liter of diesel.

The Ministry after the Ministry established that various components will be considered before any further increment is introduced.

Drivers were informed to continue charging the existing fare until a decision is made concerning the increase in public fares.

The latest agreement of 8% suggests that commuters are expected to pay a revised fare starting from September, 26.

The 8% increase will be applied to trotro, taxis, and shared taxi operators as suggested by the Union and the Ministry.
