Techiman-Krobo Nursing Training Principal, Mrs Helena Dwamena, will remain in post despite several protests calling for her removal as the school’s leader, following directives from the GES.
According to the Ministry of Health’s spokesperson, Mr. Tony Goodman, the decision is based on the findings of the committee established to investigate the students’ protests against her.
Mr. Goodman explaining it said the Principal’s approach towards the students does not provide sufficient grounds to call for her removal.
He further stated that the committee set up included the Krobohene who will not allow wrongdoing to go unchecked.
Mr Goodman made it emphatically clear that the principal may have done things that are not right but could be strict with the students in terms of academics.
“We agree that there are things the Principal was not doing right and was a bit hard on the students’ academics”, he said.
Mr. Goodman urged that the Principal should be allowed to restore sanity in the education system, particularly at Krobo-Techiman Nursing Training.
He added that one major issue that emerged from the Committee report was students paying money for grades to progress to the next level of their education.
Mr. Goodman explained that if the Committee had found the Principal unfit for the job, the Minister of Health would have recommended it.
He added that measures are being implemented to address the concerns raised and to introduce clear guidelines for students’ conduct and the entire school before reopening.
Mr. Goodman has urged all the students to cooperate with the Principal and the staff to ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
