Camilla Alhassan’s family has pleaded with the government to have mercy on Camilla after her sentence of one year in prison.
Speaking to the media after her sentence Camilla’s brother appealed for the sentence to be reduced before she has a child to take care of.
The brother described the sister as the family’s breadwinner, and her jail sentence will affect many people who depend on her for their livelihood.
He added that although the sister accepted her wrongdoing by pleading guilty to the case and instead faced prolonged incarceration, the court could have given her another chance to reform.
The brother further stated that he is a true member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and is currently serving as the youth organizer in his Zongo community, and this plea is not politically motivated but heartfelt.
Camilla was jailed on Thursday, July, 16, 2025 after she pleaded guilty to the charges in the Accra High Court for publishing false news in a series of videos targeting President, John Dramani Mahama.
