Honourable Mohammed Yakubu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo Ano South East Constituency in the Ashanti Region has apologized for the statement he made to a school pupil during their visit to Parliament.
According to the MP, his attention has been brought to a circulating video where he commented on a pupil from The Citadel School from the Sagnarigu Constituency which has taken a twisted turn about what he meant while talking to them.
In the statement, Mr. Mohammed said he made a remark saying the pupil is beautiful and would marry her when he grows up but the remark has generated public criticism in the context of long-standing playful banter between the Mossi and Dagomba ethnic groups.
He emphasized that his statement is rooted in friendship between the ethic groups and has no bad intent towards the minor.
He admitted that despite the ethnic friendship between it was inappropriate to make such a statement because it involves a minor.
He added that he respects the integrity and welfare of every child in the country and does not take it for granted.
