The Office of the Attorney General (AG) has opposed the bail application filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The Chairman’s legal team has filed for the release of their client pending the appeal in the Court of Appeal.
In an affidavit filed by the Attorney General on Tuesday, August, 11, 2026, the opposition was contained in it.
The Attorney General has urged the Court of Appeal to dismiss the application seeking to secure the release of Chairman Wontumi arguing that the application filed by Wontumi does not establish a reasonable prospect of success.
The affidavit submitted by the Office of the AG supported the reasons stated by Wontumi’s lawyers, while it maintained that the grounds of appeal were insufficient to grant Chairman Wontumi the required bail.
The Office of the Attorney stated that the grounds of the exhibit CB2 in paragraphs 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 were in support of the motion discloses that there was no reasonable chance of success.
The prosecution further stated that Chairman Wontumi should remain in prison while the appeal continues in the court.
The case is scheduled to begin in the coming days for the court to consider the jail term given to the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the NPP.
