Suspect Michael Mensah aged 39, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following alleged involvement in the murder of Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, a level 200 student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, through its intelligence, on June, 15, 2026 at 1915 hours, at Pedu Lorry Station, Cape-Coast, arrested an alleged suspect in his hideout.

In a post shared by the Ghana Police Service on its official stated that preliminary investigation has revealed that on June, 11, 2026, at about 1848 hours, the suspect who claims to be a teacher by profession but also works as a driver, picked the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the University of Cape Coast (UCC) hostel enclave and took her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen.

The Police have assured the general public that the investigations will continue, and that any further developments will be duly communicated.

This comes after Innocentia, a level 200 Human Resource Management student, was reported missing after her roommate informed her parents and the school management, following her departure from the hostel on Thursday to visit a friend.

According to the unconfirmed report, the student after leaving the campus went missing following her phone being switched off and she was nowhere to be found after several searches.

Her body was later discovered to be lifeless at a beach near the UCC campus.
