The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has directed that in the decision of the Cabinet and a successful intervention which was implemented on April, 2026 the price of diesel should be reduced by GH2 per litre for one (1) month.

“His Excellency the President has directed that in line with the decision of Cabinet and the successful intervention implemented in April 2026, the regulatory margin on diesel be reduced by GHS 2.00 per litre for one (1) month.”

In statement issued from the office of the President, the current reduction is aimed at cushioning consumers and reducing the increment in the transportation fare which in turn increases the standard of living in the country.

Following the directive by the President effective Tuesday, August, 4, 2026 the reduction of the diesel shall remain in full force for one month unless otherwise reviewed by the Government.

“This directive shall take effect from Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and shall remain in force for one month, unless otherwise reviewed by Government.”

The statement further stated that the government is monitoring the development of the fuel market in international markets and takes any additional measures to protect the interests of the country.

“The Government will continue to monitor developments in the international energy market closely and take additional policy measures, where necessary to protect the interests of the Ghanaian people and sustain economic recovery”.
