The Highest court of the land, the Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed all cases challenging the removal of the former Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.
This ruling brings finality to the domestic case stemming from her court battle.
The proceeding in the court, which was made up of a seven-member committee presided over by Justice Amadu Tanko, held on Thursday, July, 2, 2026, found that the suit against the former Chief Justice lacked merit in her dismissal.
In the case of the former Chief Justice, four different cases were filed in 2025 following her suspension after prima facie was established based on the petition to remove her.

The case was filed by the Centre for Citizenship, Constitutional and Electoral Systems, private citizen Theodore Atta Quartey, the former Chief Justice herself, and, Tafo MP Vincent Assafuah.
The Supreme Court then consolidated the cases into two hearings for the case to be handled.
The former Chief Justice was removed from office in July, 2025 after a five-member Committee investigated the case which was chaired by Chief Justice Gabriel Pwamang.
The Committee found that the former Chief Justice Torkonoo had misused public funds through travel and transport expenses and payment of family members which is a breach of the Constitution.
On June, 24, 2026, the ECOWAS also dismissed the former Chief Justice’s claims of a ruling of no violation of her rights against the Republic of Ghana.
The current Supreme Court ruling indicates that all domestic legal avenues against the former Chief Justice are exhausted.
