The Nsuta Circuit Court has granted bail to Kwame Afrifa Mensah popularly known as Okatakyie Afrifa and six others who were standing trial following the alleged disruption of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) executive elections in the Afigya Sekyere East constituency.
Okatakyie Afrifa appeared before the court in an ambulance with bandages around his neck and other parts of his body believed to have suffered injuries during the incident.
The court has today’s proceedings has granted bail to Okatakyie Afrifa in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties, one of whom must be a government worker earning not less than GH¢4,000 monthly.
The other six accused Kofi Antwi, 42, a driver; Paul Kofi Mensah, 41, a driver; Osman Awuni, 44, a driver; Bashiru Salifu, alias Tinny, 39, an electrician; Kwabena Tsikata, 36, a private investigator; and Simon Ndana, 27, also a driver — were granted bail of GH¢50,000 each.

According to the leading prosecutor Chief Inspector Owusu Kobi Moses, the intelligence gathered surrounding the case suggests that a vigilante group was recruited from Kumasi and Accra to disrupt the Afigya Sekyere East constituency of the NPP executive elections.
The prosecutor informed the court that at about 7:31am the accused Okatakyie Africa led a group of 30 people to Wiamoase where the election was taking to Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) polling station to cause disruption.
He added that a Toyota Land Cruiser with a registration number GN-7671-17 and five motorbikes and Toyota Tundra arrived at the polling station to disrupt the election process.
Upon their arrival the police questioned them about the purpose at the station but they turned aggressive and began assaulting the police officers.
The police arrested five suspects at the spot while the others fled the scene but Kwabena Tsikata was arrested after trailing the vehicle.
Another suspect Kofi Mensah was arrested who after interrogation admitted that they were engaged by Okatakyie Afrifa to disrupt the election process because some of his (Okatakyie) members’ names had been removed from the election register.
A thorough search led to a recovery of BB cartridge from Kwabena Tsikata and Bashiru Salifu and toffee believed to contain Indian hemp popularly known as ‘Wee Toffee’.
The Police are on the verge of tracking to arrest the remaining suspects and bringing them before the court.
The case was adjourned to August, 13, 2026 for their pleas to be entered.
